Why Biology Paper 3 Is Easy Marks — If You Prepare
Paper 3 is worth 40 marks and is almost entirely predictable. KNEC (see knec.co.ke) recycles four question families: food tests, classification & dichotomous keys, dissection/observation, and photomicrograph interpretation.
Food Tests Cheat-Sheet
Benedict's → reducing sugars (brick-red precipitate). Iodine → starch (blue-black). Biuret → proteins (purple). Sudan III / Emulsion → lipids. Always state: observation, conclusion, and reason — examiners want all three.
Classification & Dichotomous Keys
Use only observable features. Pair contrasting characteristics. Each statement leads to either another statement or a specimen name. Practise with last 10 years of KNEC specimens.
Photomicrographs: Drawing for Marks
Use a sharp HB pencil. No shading. Smooth continuous lines. Label lines horizontal, no arrowheads, no crossing. State magnification and view.
